Who is Florian?
Born in Germany, Florian the fly stows away on an airplane headed to Florida. His yearning for adventure brings him face to face with many of the dilemmas facing species around the globe. His abilities to learn new languages, make friends with unlikely animals and find creative ways to save other small species of animals from harm make him a most unlikely hero.

Funny how life's events shape so much of who you are and who you can become. Arriving at the age of 9 in Florida from my native Germany, life wasn't so easy, as I didn't speak the language. I am eternally grateful to the wonderful teacher I had back then, a kind-hearted Mrs. Lawrence. Perhaps that is why I became a foreign language teacher. And, as my husband loves the outdoors and isn't afraid of anything, including snakes, alligators, and bugs, I changed over to teaching science later in life. Now I am retired of sorts. Exploring this country and those overseas is my passion, as are learning new languages, meeting new friends, and being engaged in the conservation efforts in Arkansas and Florida, the two places where I reside. My little friend Florian allows me to engage young children in learning about foreign places, ecosystems, languages, and cultures without having them leave the comforts of home. You’re invited to join me and my little friend in exploring the world.
Our Travels Together
The first adventure brings Florian from Germany to Florida, hence the reason for the book being written in English and German. The 2nd adventure is written in English and Spanish, as Florian accompanies a beautiful butterfly back to her Cuban homeland.
As Florian travels the world over, each story features cultural, historical, and environmental facts about the places he visits.
